Nairobi-Sirimon Gate-Old Moses Camp (Judmaier Camp)
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi heading north through Kenya’s scenic central highlands. You will arrive at Sirimon Gate in time for registration and a briefing from your mountain guide. The trek begins through montane forest filled with cedar, olive, and podocarpus trees. Wildlife such as colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and numerous bird species are often spotted along the trail.The trail gradually opens into moorland vegetation with spectacular views of the mountain peaks. You will arrive at Old Moses Camp in the afternoon where your crew prepares hot meals and comfortable accommodation. The evening is spent resting, hydrating, and preparing for the higher altitude trekking ahead.
Old Moses Camp - Shipton Camp
After breakfast, the trek continues across the scenic Mackinder Valley. The route offers panoramic views of Mount Kenya’s main peaks and dramatic alpine terrain. You will pass unique giant lobelia and senecio plants that dominate the high-altitude ecosystem. The gradual ascent allows your body to adjust to increasing altitude while enjoying incredible mountain scenery. Lunch is served along the trail before continuing towards Shipton Camp, located beneath the towering peaks of Batian and Nelion. Upon arrival, you will rest and prepare for the summit attempt. Your guide will conduct a summit briefing explaining safety procedures and climbing strategy.
Summit Point Lenana - Descend to Sirimon Gate - Nairobi
You will wake up around midnight for tea and light snacks before starting the summit ascent under the stars. The trail climbs gradually over rocky terrain and glacial scree.You will reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise. This is the third highest peak of Mount Kenya and offers breathtaking views of glaciers, lakes, and surrounding landscapes. On clear mornings, distant views stretch across northern Kenya.After celebrating and photography, you will descend via Shipton Camp and continue down to Old Moses Camp for lunch. The trek then continues down through forest vegetation to Sirimon Gate. You will meet your transport and drive back to Nairobi arriving late afternoon or evening.
