04 Days Mount Kenya Sirimon
Overview
Your Journey
Nairobi - Sirimon Gate - Old Moses Camp (Judmaier Camp)
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi travelling north through Kenya’s scenic agricultural highlands towards Mount Kenya National Park. Upon arrival at Sirimon Gate, you will complete park registration and meet your mountain crew including guides, porters, and cook. After a safety and trek briefing, the climb begins through lush montane forest. The trail passes through cedar and olive forests with opportunities to spot wildlife such as colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and a variety of bird species. As altitude increases, the vegetation gradually transitions into open moorland with spectacular mountain views. You will arrive at Old Moses Camp in the afternoon where your crew will have prepared meals and accommodation. The evening is spent relaxing and acclimatizing.
Old Moses Camp - Shipton Camp
After breakfast, the trek continues across the dramatic Mackinder Valley. This is one of Mount Kenya’s most scenic trekking sections offering panoramic views of jagged peaks, alpine ridges, and high-altitude vegetation. You will pass giant lobelias and senecio plants which are unique to East African mountains. The gradual ascent allows your body to adapt naturally to the altitude. Lunch is served along the trail before continuing towards Shipton Camp, located beneath the towering peaks of Batian and Nelion. Upon arrival, you will rest and hydrate. Your guides will conduct a summit briefing and monitor acclimatization progress.
Acclimatization Day – Trek Towards Kami Hut / Hausberg Col – Return to Shipton Camp
This day is dedicated to acclimatization which is essential for summit success and safety. After breakfast, you will take a short hike towards Kami Hut or Hausberg Col. This climb helps your body adapt to higher altitude while following the “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization principle. During this hike, trekkers enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kenya’s glaciers, valleys, and rock formations. Your guide will also provide information about the mountain’s geography, flora, and wildlife. You will return to Shipton Camp for lunch and spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the summit attempt. Early dinner is served to allow sufficient rest before the night climb.
Summit Point Lenana – Descend to Sirimon Gate – Nairobi
You will wake around midnight for tea and light snacks before beginning your summit ascent under the stars. The trail climbs gradually over rocky terrain and glacial scree slopes. You will reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise. This is Mount Kenya’s third highest peak and offers breathtaking panoramic views of glaciers, alpine lakes, and surrounding landscapes. On clear days, distant mountain ranges and northern Kenyan plains are visible. After photography and summit celebrations, you will descend to Shipton Camp for breakfast. The trek continues downhill to Old Moses Camp for lunch before completing the final descent to Sirimon Gate. Your driver will meet you at the gate for your transfer back to Nairobi arriving late afternoon or evening.
