Your Journey
Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp
Habitat: Montane Forest → Moorland Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi travelling north through Kenya’s scenic central highlands. Upon arrival at Sirimon Gate, you will meet your mountain trekking crew including guides, porters, and cook. After registration and a safety briefing, the trek begins through dense montane forest with opportunities to spot wildlife such as colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and bird species. The trail gradually transitions into moorland vegetation with beautiful mountain scenery. You will arrive at Old Moses Camp in the afternoon where hot meals and accommodation await.
Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Shipton Camp
After breakfast, the trek continues across the scenic Mackinder Valley offering panoramic views of Mount Kenya’s rugged peaks and alpine terrain. You will pass giant lobelia and senecio plants unique to high-altitude environments. The trek is paced slowly to allow proper acclimatization. Lunch is served along the trail before continuing to Shipton Camp, located beneath Mount Kenya’s highest peaks. Upon arrival, trekkers rest and prepare for summit day while guides conduct altitude monitoring and safety briefings.
Day 3: Summit Point Lenana – Descend to Old Moses Camp
You will wake around midnight for tea and light snacks before starting the summit climb under the stars. The trail climbs gradually over rocky alpine terrain. You will reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise. This is Mount Kenya’s trekking summit and offers breathtaking views of glaciers, alpine lakes, and surrounding landscapes. After celebrating and photography, you will descend back through Shipton Camp and continue down to Old Moses Camp for overnight stay.
Day 4: Old Moses Camp – Sirimon Gate – Transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast, you will descend through forest vegetation to Sirimon Gate where you will meet your safari vehicle. You will transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is famous for rhino conservation and offers excellent wildlife viewing including lions, elephants, buffalos, giraffes, and zebras. Optional visits include the chimpanzee sanctuary and endangered species conservation centers.
Day 5: Full Day Safari in Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Today is dedicated to wildlife exploration within Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Morning and afternoon game drives provide opportunities to spot the Big Five and other wildlife species. The conservancy is known for its successful rhino conservation programs and offers close encounters with endangered black and white rhinos. Between game drives, guests relax at the lodge enjoying scenic views and wildlife around waterholes.
Day 6: Transfer to Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, you will travel north to Samburu National Reserve, known for its unique northern wildlife species and semi-arid landscapes. Upon arrival, lunch is served followed by an afternoon game drive. Samburu is home to rare species including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich. The reserve offers stunning riverine forest landscapes along the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Day 7: Safari and Cultural Experience in Samburu
Today includes morning and afternoon game drives exploring Samburu’s diverse wildlife habitats. Guests will also enjoy optional cultural visits to local Samburu communities to learn about traditional lifestyles, customs, and pastoral heritage. This day offers exceptional wildlife photography opportunities and authentic cultural interactions.
Day 8: Samburu – Return to Nairobi
After breakfast, you will depart Samburu and drive back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon marking the end of your Mount Kenya Trek and Safari adventure.
